American Equine Scenting Association

Munch-N-Done had the pleasure of auditing a clinic put on by Terry Nowaki in Ames, Iowa on a beautiful weekend in July, 2017.   I do admit, I was skeptical going into this.  Doing tradeshows throughout the Midwest, however, we had come across a few Search and Rescue volunteers who had participated in these clinics, and the reviews were always over the top.  100% positive feedback, and everyone we spoke with always ended their clinics by rebooking Terry for another one.  That speaks volumes.   Friday was classroom, and we watched…

A New Change…

Just a head’s up to all of our loyal customers wondering about the name change.  Our NibbleNOT is no more, and is now known as the Munch-N-Done.  We are excited about the change, and as we speak, it is working its’ way through the United States Patent and Trademark Office on it’s way to becoming a Registered Trademark.  You need not worry that anything but the name has changed.  These products are still all hand sewn by the owners of BackWoods Journey, LLC, Dee and Kelley.  We strive for the…

Headshaker Syndrome

From Headshakingsyndrom.com, an explanation of what this condition consists of: All horses shake their head at one time or another horizontally, whereas horses with headshaking syndrome exhibit repetitive, involuntary headshaking that is more vertical. These horses may also have horizontal headshaking but the hallmark sign is the vertical movement. The motion is a sudden, intense downward flick of the nose and in severe cases the whole head and neck may be involved. This is a differentiating sign that is very useful in defining headshaking syndrome. Another mandatory criterion is that…

Training Aid? We Thought NOT, Until…

Our first trade show was in the spring of 2015, at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.  We had invented our Munch-N-Done™ the previous fall of 2014.  It was the fall of 2014 that we shot all the video we used in our first advertisements.  This is a Missouri Foxtrotter mare, and we show the dramatic change in under saddle behavior after just one ride.  And believe me, it is dramatic.  We met a lot of wonderful people at that first trade show, and talked to a lot of folks.  Many asked…

Moving Forward…

Now came the fun part.  Experimenting with various materials and design.  We worked with neoprene materials, all weights of screen mesh, poly and nylon webbing, different types of velcro, three different types of elastic, hardware in the form on snaps, rings and buckles.  Every week we narrowed it down further than the last.  And during the entire process, we were field testing it out on the trails.  Every tweak we made to the design still had to do it’s job in the field, and simply prevent your horse from browsing…

Our First Prototype

After an exhaustive google search for riding muzzle, anti-nibbling muzzle, anti-grazing muzzle, etc, etc, we knew there was nothing on the market that was suitable.   Our First Prototype: What we found was cumbersome, hideous, ineffective, or required specific kinds of bit usage, or entirely extra strapping altogether, up and around the horse’s poll. Our first Munch-N-Done prototype is pictured. We scrounged up some left over screen from a previous decking project in the garage, some baling twine, and a needle and thread.  Neither of us having really sewed…
